Have you been offered a job position in Staten Island? Is the love of your life asking you to move to Staten Island? Or, has living in other New York boroughs become too crowded and expensive? These are legitimate reasons to consider buying a home in Staten Island.

However, since buying a home in Staten Island is going to be one of the most significant investments of your life, the chances are that you have second thoughts. That is why you are here, after all – to find out whether this purchase is a good idea or not, right?

If the answer to that question is YES, you have come to the right place. Today we will share why you should consider buying a home in the so-called Forgotten Borough. Thus, if this is something you want to find out, keep on reading.

The Real  Estate Is Cheaper in Staten Island

Whether you have lived in New York before or not, you probably know this is one of the most expensive places in the world. Everything comes with a hefty price tag here – rent, bills, groceries, entertainment, etc.

However, when compared to all other boroughs, Staten Island is relatively cheaper. It is cheaper, especially when buying a home. The median home value is around $635K, or $417 per square foot. In other boroughs such as Manhattan or Brooklyn, real estate prices tend to go above million dollars. Thus, if you want to buy a home in New York but you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on it, Staten Island may be your best option.

Homes Come in All Shapes and Sizes

Another reason you should consider buying a home in Staten Island is all the home types it provides. Yes, this borough is small but full of attractive architectural styles. So, for instance, if you want to buy a house, you can choose between the Ranch, Cape Cod, Split Level, Victorian, Tudor, and many other styles of homes.

Of course, you can also buy an apartment – there are plenty of old and new buildings in Staten Island, so you will be able to pick the one that suits your needs and budget.

Just don’t forget – when moving to a place as big as New York, you will need all the help you can get. You will need the help of professional movers, especially if you plan to get here from far away. International relocations are not something to joke about – so find your movers on time. Moreover, find your realtors on time too! And make sure they are local if you want to find the best bet.

The ‘Center’ of New York Is Not Far

There is a good reason why most people decide to live in Manhattan. Manhattan is New York’s hot spot. It is where everything happens. Entertainment is the best. All the available job positions are here, etc. However, Manhattan is also where homes cost above $1.5M. Don’t believe us? Just find a real estate agent and ask him (or her).

But why spend all that money on a tiny home when you can live comfortably in something more significant and cheaper on Staten Island? Buying a home in Staten Island doesn’t mean you will be isolated from the rest of the world. Two bridges off Staten Island will take you to Manhattan (or any other borough) in less than 30 minutes. And, if you don’t have a car, you can use The Staten Island Ferry.

There Are Some Great Schools

Before you start looking for real estate agents to help you with buying a home in Staten Island, and before you start looking for movers on sites such as Best Movers NYC to help you move to that home, there is one thing you have to do first – find a suitable school for your child.

Moving to Staten Island or moving anywhere will be hard on your little ones. Thus, do everything in your power to find a school they like and a school that fits all of their needs. Luckily, Staten Island is full of schools. Believe it or not, there are 39 private and 84 public schools. Some public schools, particularly, are highly ranked –  Tottenville High School and Csi High School For International Studies.

And, There Is Always Something to Do Here

Yes, Manhattan may be the center of all the happenings in New York, but that doesn’t mean that there is nothing to do with Staten Island. Quite the contrary – this borough has plenty to offer.

For instance, if you enjoy sightseeing in old and historical places, you can find some of the most charming small towns in New York. But, if your idea of sightseeing is a bit more modern, you can always visit the Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, the Chinese Scholar’s Garden, or the Staten Island Museum. You can then continue with the National Lighthouse Museum, Gateway National Recreational Area, Fort Wadsworth, Freshkills Park, and Staten Island Zoo.

Of course, the borough is also brimming with restaurants, coffee shops, pubs, clubs, malls, game centers, recreational areas, etc. Thus, no matter what you like to do in your free time, be sure you will find it here.

As you have seen, there are many reasons why you should consider buying a home in Staten Island. We mentioned just a few of them, but trust us, there are many more. So, do some research on your own or talk to people who already live there.
